The Dull Flame of Desire
series of objects:
steel, aluminum, oil paint, spray paint, epoxy resin, textiles, glass, rubber, found items, 2020
The Dull Flame of Desire series was prepared especially for the presentation in the Morasko Meteorite Nature Reserve in Poznań, PL. 5000 years ago a meteorite rain fell here, leaving a cluster of the largest impact craters in Europe. This distant catastrophe disrupted the geological and natural order, changing the surrounding environment.
The title of the work is inspired by the poem of Fyodor Tyutchev, which appears in the last scene of Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker. It is whispered in the thoughts of Martyszka, the daughter of the main character, at the moment when she reveals her supernatural abilities. It is the influence of the mysterious “Zone”, a place that breaks the laws of logic and physics, that has irrevocably distorted the reality presented in the film.
Perceiving off-site intervention as something that subtly disturb the initial perception of the found terrain, installed works are a kind of traces that introduce elements of fictional narration into the existing landscape.
